Meet the Artist: Mari Miller

Mari Miller is a Eurasian Toisanese maker who blends, art, craft, and design with science and history. Their current work focuses on using alternative photography to cultivate reciprocal relationships with the more-than-human world. Mari has spent the past three years expanding the artistic capabilities of soil chromatography, a scientific test that farmers use to assess soil health. Each color and striation ina. chromatogram denotes a different compound or bacteria in the sample. Mari uses chromatography to illuminate the unseen world beneath our feet, to make visible the land's spirit and love for us. Soil chromatography is not a form of microscopy but a way to make tiny compounds visible to the naked eye.
