“When the library fell, all bookshelves collapsed, and the texts were scattered all over. Languaging then took place.”
olivier’s textual practice explores rearrangement and language’s materiality. Through site-responsive projects, texts become objects that shift, repeat, fold, overlap, reference, and play with one another.
Working with iteration and transtextuality, olivier uses materials such as paper, metal, corrugated plastic, and magnets, alongside processes of binding, laminating, boxing, folding, and sequencing. Their works copy and edit one another, creating visual connections, paradoxes, synchronicities, and puns.
Central to their practice is the idea of “languaging” and the exhibition as a kind of “playground,” where rearrangement becomes a mode of rereading. Rather than seeking a single fixed meaning, the work allows texts and objects to continually form, unform, translate, and remain otherwise.
“I don’t want comprehension; I want parallel play.”
