🎉 Big news: CAMOC is proud to present the upcoming exhibition Language of Abstraction, showing as a part of Chicago Exhibition Weekend 2025.
📅 Saturday, September 20, 2025 | 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM
📍 Ruth and Samuel Moy Gallery | 238 W 23rd St.
Chicago has long been known for its distinctive blend of Surrealist and Pop Art–influenced figuration—a legacy carried forward by artists Ruyell Ho and Li Lin Lee. Curated by Larry Lee (@lardamang), this exhibition brings together select works spanning more than fifty years of their practice.
Through abstraction, Ho and Lee reimagine language both directly and indirectly, transforming it into visual form. While each has forged an independent path, their work parallels one another in a shared pursuit: creating a personal lexicon that treats form, structure, and mechanics as the very “body” of written language, whether expressed through ideogram or calligraphy. What they create certainly captures their inner vision to navigate selves and identity within a universal language that goes against the stereotype of how a general public views art.
Now is the time to acknowledge and celebrate their long artistic careers as part of a prolific contribution to the Chicago art world and Chinese American diasporic experience.
