About CAMOC
Our Story
Founded in 2005, the Chinese American Museum of Chicago (CAMOC) is a dynamic cultural center for learning and connection in Chicago’s Chinatown.
The only Chinese American museum in the Midwest, CAMOC’s extensive archive of media and artifacts document the long history and cultural evolution of Chinese in the American Midwest. Our collection houses the lesser known stories of this region’s earliest laborers and merchants, driven east from the West Coast in the mid-nineteenth century, and extends to its fourth-generation Chinese American families here today alongside each subsequent wave of the newly arrived.
Mission Statement
Through a dynamic curatorial program, exhibitions, ethnographic scholarship, and partnerships throughout the city of Chicago, CAMOC fosters intergenerational, intercontinental dialogue to expand the historical record and our understanding of the Chinese American experience.
